Frequently Asked Questions

Take the Mystery Out of Autobody

I’ve been involved in a car accident, what should I do?

The team at Modern Auto Body is here to assist you through the entire process. It’s our goal to provide you with all the information you require to make informed decisions when dealing with insurance companies regarding the safe repair of your vehicle.

We work for YOU, we are not affiliated with any insurance companies. Being in an accident is stressful and it’s important to have all the information you need before contacting your insurance company so you can advocate for your right of repair.

My insurance company has told me which body shop to take my vehicle, do I have to go there?

Absolutely not – You are completely in charge of choosing where your vehicle is repaired. According to the Consumer Bill of Rights, as the owner of a motor vehicle, you have the right to choose the repair facility of your choice. The insurance company, or third party, cannot tell you where to take your car.

Do I need three (3) estimates?

No. The autobody industry utilizes a standardized and integrated estimating system that determines the cost of repairs. The law does not require more than one estimate.

What does “OEM” and being “OEM Certified” Mean?

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer. OEM certification means that a body shop has been acknowledged to only use factory-approved parts. It also means that the facility has the correct equipment to install those parts, and uses only factory-approved procedures. Modern Autobody has multiple OEM certifications. This means we work directly with the manufacturers who build the cars we repair. Our trained technicians attend ongoing education seminars and testing held by these brands. The OEM repairs are completed using the tools, equipment, and parts directly from the manufacturer and are strictly monitored by the OEM certification programs.

In addition, Modern Autobody is audited annually by each brand to maintain our certification and level of compliance to the OEM programs. Some insurance appraisers will lead you to believe they have experience and training to advise of the repairs needed for your vehicle. We encourage you to ask about their level of training, when it occurred, and it they have the current understanding of the proper OEM repair procedures to ensure your vehicle is repaired safely and back to pre accident condition.

My car was severely damaged in the collision, will it ever be the same?

Yes! This is at the core of everything we do and believe in. We go to great lengths and expense to work with the original equipment manufacturers to insure we have the skilled technicians and state of the art equipment to repair your car, including severe structural and/or frame damage. In some situations the damage is beyond safe repair limits and, should that discovered, we would petition your insurance company not to proceed with repair of your car.

Can Modern Autobody waive my deductible?

Only your insurance company has the power to waive your deductible. It is the portion of your repair bill that your Insurance policy states you are responsible for. As the repair shop we unfortunately have no control over your deductible amount.

Will my paint match?

Yes! We utilize a state of the art paint matching and mixing system that ensures proper colour on all vehicles finishes. Every manufacturer uses different paint codes which are tied to your vehicles identification number (VIN). Modern Autobody ensures that we have full access to the full library of codes and we have the ability to handle unique variations from different production dates and factories.

How long will the repairs take?

Our goal is to return your car to you as soon as possible. Each vehicle is different and is handled on a cade by case basis. In some instances the process can be slowed by insurance approvals, backordered factory parts, or further damage that is uncovered during the course of the repair. We will always keep you apprised of the situation and offer our best estimates for completion time.

What if I have problems after I get my car back?

We have a full guarantee on all repairs performed by Modern Autobody for as long as you own the repaired vehicle. However, items such as abuse, subsequent new damage after the return of your vehicle, and wear and tear are not covered.
